I can't find anything about this coin. I assume it's brass and not gold/gold plated. Can rule out gold probably as it's too light.
Could anybody shed any light?

It should be silver, so I would guess it is gold-plated.

I know it should be silver, hence the thread. Initially thought it may be gold plated, but the weight is more in line with brass.
Is there any evidence of these being gold plated for any particular reason?
Gonna go weigh it again now.

I suppose it could be brass, but an off-metal strike would be rare. I have had gold-plated SA Farthings, Half Penny, and Pennies, but not a 5 cent.

Yea, just strange it's off weight by around 0.5 grams. Could be particularly heavy gold plating I guess.
I've heard of the pre republic ones being gold plated, but never the common modern cents.
