And then why say "medal"... You don't paint the word C A R on the side of... cars, or the word C H A I R on a... chair.
You probably saw that there used to be a loop at the top.
The head reminds me of the French emperor Napoléon III. One wonders, too, what "C .A" means at the bottom of the head ─ and is that the same C A as in the monogram on the reverse??

My Thoughts exactly. The word medal does not strike me as odd. But the repetitive "COPPER" does.
