Ha, so I'm not the only one. I guess it's because the prices over here are so ridiculous that when I find one that's actually reasonably priced I can't help myself, even if I already have one. I got this one for the equivalent of about £5 and according the "Values of the coins of the UK" website it's worth about £10 in Fine condition. early UK coins are usually for sale for well above catalogue value over here.
I guess I did not cought this syptom of coin illness yet. But I did not checked whether I have them sometimes and bought duplicates just because the price was good, but not intentionally.

I have 6 silver Hyderabad 1905 2 annas but cannot bring myself to pick any of them to sell on, they are too pretty . I will happily have silver duplicates if the price is tempting enough!

I got one of the 1921 1 rupee coins from Hyderabad a few months ago. I just need the 8 Annas to complete the silver set but I don't hold out much hope of getting one of those, they seem to be pretty expensive and don't come up for sale very often.
I get a lot of duplicates because of the way I source coins, either in person, single coins or even whole collections, or by large lots through the mail. I don't carry a list of the coins I need everywhere I go so if I see a Victorian Shilling in a decent grade at a low price I'll buy it and take the chance. If it doesn't fill an empty slot or give me a nice upgrade it goes into my swap list.
I think everyone should be on the lookout for well priced coins. Every coin market has local variations in price so what's expensive for you might be cheap for me and vice versa. If your budget allkows for it why not snap up the bargains even if it's a coin you don't need so that it can enter our little Numista marketplace? It's better than letting some dealer scoop them up or letting them go off to the melting pot.
The more coins we have between our various swap list the easier it is for us to fill those ugly gaps in our albums without resorting to eBay. Everybody wins.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
