This is a 1730-1743 German States Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hanover 2/3 Thaler (or 24 Mariengroschen) from the reign of George II of the UK.

thanks but after looking up numista catalogue, it would seem that King George 2 had a horse on the reverse, whereas the coin in question has a wildman on reverse. Could it possibly be George 3?

Your coin does not seem to be in the Numista catalog. Could you please add the it? ;)
According to NGC this coin was from 1730 to 1743 which is George II. George III ascended in 1760.
