Is this threepence from New Guinea authentic? I'm asking because the letters design seems a bit "strange".

I would stay away from that. I have this coin and all the details are pin sharp.

I don't think it's fake. These coins are notorious for being poorly minted, it's probably just been struck with a die that's well past it's use-by date

I've never seen one that bad like Neil that's pretty weird. Regardless.. It's not a hard coin to get you may as well get a decent one.
