it feels like you should rotate both pictures 180 °

Yes, rotate 180º. The name on the middle line of the first picture is Muhammad ─ either the prophet or a sultan or a caliph...

The Muhammad in the first photo is the Prophet: La ilah illa Allah / Muhammad / rassul Allah ("There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the apostle of Allah"). The ruler's name, if present, is on the other side: al-sultan al-a'zam / ... / ... khallad mulkahu ("the sultan the greatest" / ... / ... "may his kingdom be preserved"). I can't make out the middle line. A sharper photo may help.
Good work, dltcoins.

I can't read the middle line either, nor the beginning of the third line, which still needs to be read. I agree that a sharper picture may help.

Maybe Maldives coin?

Many, many rulers have styled themselves al-sultan al-a'zam. That title isn't very helpful to narrow things down. You were on the right track in the beginning, I think. Generally "Persian", Mongol period or a bit later. The new images are clearer but I just can't make sense of the middle line. Ilkhans? Timurids? Some minor Anatolian dynasty?
Thanks for your help
Citeer: "Camerinvs"Good work, dltcoins.

I can't read the middle line either, nor the beginning of the third line, which still needs to be read. I agree that a sharper picture may help.

I think the third line begins with khan (or ilkhan?). Thus, the ruler is al-sultan al-a'zam somebody-or-other (il)khan. Doesn't narrow the field by much, unfortunately.
try to post the pictures on Zeno, or send them to the postmaster.

You can still register at zeno. Send a request with the user name you want to use to the site owner charm@postman.ru. It's only "self registration" that is closed.
The word outside the square, at bottom, is Uthman, the name of the third calipha. Likely around the square are the name of the four first caliphas. I have seen this design in Umayyad coins.

Thanks. This coin is not listed in numista catalogue.
I will look in Ummayad coins
Umayyad coins do not bear the title al-sultan al-a'zam. I think we can safely place the coin in the 13th-15th centuries. I lean toward an Anatolian issue loosely imitating an Ilkhan prototype, perhaps Uljaytu. Your coin's weight of 2.1g closely matches Uljaytu's dirham standard of 2.16gm and bears some stylistic affinity to his type A design.
It would be a Mongolian coin then.
The Ilkhanate Dynasty
was founded by Heulga Khan

Was 1304 to 1316.
Only coin Sultan in it.
Oyjaytul Sultan
Thanks
did you get that info from Zeno?

definitely Ilkhanid coin.
Not yet
I agree with the type of Ilkhanid coin

It is very similar to the Uhejytu Dirham type A (703-716 AH)
I am inclined to this coin, it is the only catalog with the same features
