Svalbard, aka Spitzbergen, is an Arctic Ocean archipelago inhabited by more polar bears than people. After hundreds of years of disputes over fishing/mining privileges, a treaty was signed in 1920 granting Norway sovereignty. Some 20 other nations, including the United States and Russia, were granted mining and other rights by the treaty. Only Russia and Norway continue to exercise their rights. Norway promotes tourism to the remote islands. In 2017 an unofficial 100 Kroner coin was issued for Svalbard by a Russian coin dealer. One side features the Norwegian arms, a compass rose and the name "SVALBARD". The other side features polar bears. The 40mm silver-plated Proof coin has a mintage of only 200 pieces
The "Free Republic of Liberland" was founded in 2015. It is located on a 7 sq. kilometer (2.7 sq. miles) area on the Danube River between Serbia and Croatia known as Gornja Siga. Because of the shifting path of the river, neither country claimed the territory, so it was claimed by Czech politician and activist Vít Jedlička. He is attempting to establish a libertarian nation on the property. Though Croatia does not claim the territory, it does not allow anyone to enter the territory either, which has made it difficult to establish the new nation. That however has not stopped over 400,000 people from registering for citizenship on its website: https://liberland.org/en/about/
