I propose that we as decent human beings and amazing members of numista build a collection to send to this guy to get him started!

I know that for many of us, collecting is a port in the storm of life, it adds so much value and we spend so much time on it. Imagine if our collection, or indeed our entire port got swept away by the forces of nature. I personally would be absolutely mortified. Many of us here spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year on our collections, so I'm sure we have lots spare to help somebody in need.

So here's what I'm looking for from people wishing to pledge:

1. Somebody in the USA or Canada who is a trusted member to coordinate donations from there and send the final package
2. People to pledge to the endeavour.

As for coins:

1. Canadian coins of all shapes ages and sizes
2. Whitman folders, which I assume are the folders you keep certain coin types in.
3. American coins
4. World coins, especially England, Mexico and Egypt
5. 2x2 Flips

I don't know the guy, and would preferably prefer to be kept fairly anonymous in terms of what I contribute to the final package. If anybody else doesn't want their specifics included but wants to contribute, please do say so.

That said I'll be giving 300 world coins including some silver ones and a 1870 canadian 5 Cents and any other Canadian coins I find! I'm also happy to coordinate donations from Europe to be sent in bulk.

Go Numista boys and girls, show me what you can do.
I was hoping someone would start organizing something like this. I don't have a lot of UK, Canadian and Egyptian coins as they aren't my collecting focus but I'll gladly give away the ones that I have, please add the details of where to send them once everything is ready and I'll send my package. :)
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.

Yea same, though I did just find a few modern Canada 5 cents! I think we'll get him on the German/Russian style coin bug if we send enough of them :)

I'll sort out logistics once I have a reliable North American conduit.
If I have the energy this weekend. I will start pulling Canadian 25 cent coins. And list the ones I have. I should have the 1cent coins from 1950 to 92, not the odd ones. And 5 cent 1962 to 1980. Should I list what I pull for him?

Johnspa has volunteered to be the American conduit, so that's sorted!

I've just reset my collection Alfred as it was totally out of date anyway, so I'll use it to add all the coins I'm sending. If you give me a list I'll just add them to that.

That way we can track it all and not send doubles.
I've got Whitman / Harris folders for both US and Canadian coins plus I'll fill as many gaps for UK and Canadian coins as I'm able. I'm still moving my US coins from folders to albums so it will take me a few days yet before I can sort through them. Once I do I'll post a complete list to avoid duplicates. I'll mail them to him directly because they will be very heavy in total plus they can go by media mail, slower but far cheaper.

It might be a good idea for overseas collectors to send a set of current coins from their country, it would be a very quick and inexpensive way to kickstart a world coin collection. If you keep it under 1 ounce including packing it should be able to go in a regular letter sized envelope and nominal cost.

I can help with Pre-1960 Jefferson nickels. I have:

Sorry I don't have any other dates, but I can get a Whitman folder and put these coins in it.
I have had 8 swaps with Michael and must admit that his enthusiasm is very contagious. Our last swap was for a bunch of State and NP Quarters that were actually needed for a swap to the Netherlands. He was very appreciative of the fact that he got to help me out with this 160 coin swap. He is quit a go-getter. I have already sent him about 100 coins from UK, Canada, and Mexico along with flips and holders and I think that the generosity being shown now (and in the past) describes the true fellowship of the Numista community. I believe that the gift of coins is the greatest treasure that can be received by any of us and I'm proud to see that someone stepped up to help Michael out. I hope you have a very successful coin pledge for Michael, he deserves it!! Gary
I’ll see what I can rustle up, I know I have some Colonial coins lying around he could have for sure ! He’s inspired me with his story and makes me feel a bit better about what we’re going through and what we will have to deal with in the future with regards to CP.
Yes I have had a few swap to with him. The last one I messed up. Wrong address.
Iam thinking of not posting what I pull for him. But just the Canadian 25 cent coins. There are so many of them. And anything out of the ordinary . I have a 1842 bank token with a whole.

But in nice condition.

All I can offer is South Korean, Japanese and Taiwan coins. I know he collect "pocket money", and that's all I have, so the condition won't be the highest (F-VF) but hopfully it's a start and he can use it to swap for coins he really wants.

I can find whitmans for all the UK and US coins, no Canadian folders though. I do know from conversations with Michael that he very much enjoyed filling up these with inexpensive coins. As I don't want to spoil what I hope will be a very pleasant surprise I'll try to coordinate the mailing with johnspa so that they arrive at the same time.

I can fill some of the UK 1d gaps in Daryl's list, plus a lot of farthings and some 1/2d's. Once we get a list of dates already pledged I'll try to fill as many gaps as possible and mail these to John. (perhaps a sticky at the top of the page?)

I have UK 1/4d to 1/d and pretty much all for common US coins. No Canadian though.

I don't think I have anything that you don't already have. I am currently in the United States, so coins from my country are nothing special for him. I could gather some circulated world coins from a varierty of countries if you think he'd like that?
Is there something else that would help? Maybe someone who knows how to do such things can put together a funding thing for him? I noticed he said (in the attached thread) "I don't even have my electric wheelchair anymore I just have a regular chair." and "I won't have very much internet access because I will now live in the mountains." It sounds like there are unmet needs. Internet would allow communication with his Numista friends, but the logistics of adding a signal on a mountain might be beyond us. I don't know what sort of wheelchair would be suitable, so I don't know what price range would be needed.

I'm sorry, I completely missed this. I don't have any Canadian folders and as his user name implies, that's his first love. I think the majority of his collection was put together from ex circulation 20th century coins which I'm pretty sure are well covered by the Whitman range. If you can buy them used they shouldn't be too expensive - new ones are only around $5 each.

They are quite heavy though. Rather than mailing them to johnspa I would suggest waiting until the accumulated coins are on their way and send them by media mail directly to Michael. It's much cheaper ​but it's restricted to printed material, i.e. you can't send a mixture of coins and folders. They can take about a week or more to arrive so if we time it right they should be on his doorstep about two days after the coins.

​I was not able to find any Canadian folders at the store I was at. Sorry.
After digging for a while I found some Canada coin books:

Should I bother sending the Half and Dollar books? Not sure if he collects these, but it may inspire him to, if he has the book.

Hello everybody, James here, Michael's Father in Law. I help Mr. Canada out on this website that is oodles over. I guess I must say that this came to be quiet a shock for the blamey one to discover. I informed him that he should strongly consider renaming himself as blimey canada instead...

I've been down in Florida working and sorting out what's left. Needless to say it's all rubbish, so I shall spare everyone the details. A few weeks ago I arrived in New York and the plans are at this time, no set plans as of yet. Our family is uncertain and currently undecided on returning to Florida. At least anytime soon that is...

I would like to send a warm and kind thank you to all those members on here that are polite and patient with my son in law. We all know he can get overexcited at times, but it's all in good fun. It's been a rough year for the little fella. But he is strong minded to say the least. I think by now it's been about two years or so that he has been raving and waffling on about everybody on this website. I must say, it's really turned him into quite a character. He really got "into" the whole coin collecting thing and especially the Canadian Coin collecting thing around 5 years ago or so I believe. It's a long story best for another time. We sort of accidentally discovered the website while attempting to sort out and figure out some odds and ends. He's been hooked hard over the last year or so. He has developed a very strong understanding of everything that has to do with this place. At least that's our observation. It's really grounded him and gave him a focus. And for the creators of the website and the supports of this community, I'd like to say thank you for making this a safe and wonderful place for him to "play" on the computer and learn many, many things.

From what Michael has told me and what I understand is that this is a "free trade and bartering website". He said that a bunch of people started to send him coins in the mail but he could not trade with them. So that kind of made him upset actually. It seemed that he could not get around the fact that some of his buddies on here were just giving him some freebees I guess. His Aunt would call me up and explain this to me. It actually took him a long time to figure out what was going on. We've sat down and read all these kind words that people wrote to him and he was really confused why he did not know about this. Him not having the internet where he is currently staying has been difficult for him to say the least. It's a good thing he is patient though. He knows that many things need to be sorted out and everything will be on the mend someday.

I also have to admit that I was pretty shocked to read some of the things that people wrote on here. After all everyone is in reality total strangers to my lad. And it was indeed humbling to see what ideas were popping around. Please be advised it is absolutely not necessary for anyone to raise any type of money for him to get a new wheelchair. I was really taken back by that. And so was everyone else. Getting him a new comfortable chair was nearly at the top of the list. So we had to handle that very quickly.

My family, myself and especially Mikey appreciate deeply for anyone who has been keeping him thoughts over the past several months. It really means the world to him. I wish you all really knew how much this website means to him. We created a makeshift data base for most if not all the people he has traded with over the past couple of years. His Aunt came down to the library and went through everyone of his emails on here.
Mikey wanted to send a Christmas Card to everyone that traded with him here. He was begging for this!! Finally yesterday we sorted things out and send over 20 cards out to various people. We have another pile that are going to Canada and one to England on Monday as these of course required more than a stamp. I hope that the card does not offend anyone, as his wacky sense of humor often gets the best of him. His favorite show in the world is this show called South Park. It's some crazy kinds from Colorado that talk trash all day I guess. He's obsessed basically. This is where his name "blame canada" comes from too. There is some song on the show or from a movie that literally makes him pee himself when he hears it. He has a unique sense of humor, this is for sure. But in all honestly when he is "serious" he is very VERY serious and is literally obsessed with all things Canada. He saw Canadian Geese at the hospital the other day in a pond and he almost drove himself down the bloody embankment!

Well to wrap things up, again I thank you and Mike hopes that everyone enjoys the cards and the surprise he sent out to all. He has informed me that there are several people on the website that wrote things about him on here that he does not even know however. He wanted to send more cards but he does not know "all the others" according to him. So he said, "he does not know how". I will have a talk with him to explain this also.

Yes I do. You're not missing much in Florida, it's still 80 degrees. We were hit hard by Irma, no power for 10 days and no phone service for almost a month. It sounds like you folks had it far worse.

It made me very sad to read that you had lost the coin collection which had given you so much pleasure and focus. I have a substantial number of Canadian and UK coins plus Whitman type folders for them which I'll be mailing next week. I intended to send them long ago but life intervened so I'm running late as always. I've just picked up coin collecting once more so my newly active status means lots of trips to the Post Office.

Wherever you are, I hope you will continue to enjoy your hobby and never lose the infectious enthusiasm which has endeared you to so many people. Stay warm and stay in touch.

Yes my friend like Phil iam so far behind in mailing. With all that been thrown at me in the last 4 months I don't have any time. Iam packing it up today and hope to have in the mail by Friday.

Hi, I sent Mike a bunch of British coins earlier this year and he sent me some American coins in return, he seems a very nice lad and as you know, he's very into it.
