Hi everyone, You may know me as Neilithic who jumped off the site a couple of months back.
I made the decision yesterday that I wish to give up coin collecting for good and sell off my collection (Although I may keep my NZ trade tokens) I thought that I would set up an account on here to let the wonderful people I've met through this site have first dibs at my coins. I've got about $13,000 worth of coins so there will likely be something for everybody. You can contact me direct to ask for specific countries, but I'll be listing the coins up on this account too.
I've had a good think about it. I asked myself why I was collecting, once I had a coin I just stored it in a folder and didn't really look at them anymore. I had even forgotten half the coins that I owned. My kids aren't interested in coins so I'm not going to save it for them who would likely just take it to a dealer and get ripped off.
It was fun for the first few years I was collecting when it was easy to pick up decent bulk lots for a sort through, or to pick up decent coins for low prices. That doesn't happen anymore, there are too many people hunting for bargains and too many people asking outrageous prices for the coins, it's just not fun. I'd much rather sell the coins and buy some fun toys like a kayak or new bike or bag full of Frisbee golf discs, something that I will use and get enjoyment out of.
Are there no collector clubs or societies in NZ? I enjoy giving talks and preparing exhibits...you might too...I understand you...but it also makes me sad.
Library Media Specialist, columnist, collector, and gardener...
I understand that you must Prioritize, a $13,000 bike and Kayak would be nice.....
I know you love history, its part of what attracted you to coins, at least put together a nice WWII album.
Send me all your coins and when I get to my other house I'll set them out in the drive way for you to pick up.
Do you still have one of those octopus coin from Taluva?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
Sorry, no octopussies, I never collected them myself but I always picked them up when I saw them because I knew they were hard to get and other people liked them.
