Hello,
Could anyone translate the legends of this medal ? https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces111839.html

DE PRAGMATIQUE SANCTIE BELOOFT EN NOU VANMYN ERVELANDE BEROOFT

and

EEDE EN VERBONDE GEBROOKEN ENT VUUR ALOMME AANGESTOOKEN

Thanks.

"The Pragmatic Sanction, once empowering me, now robs me of my inheritance"

and

"The oaths and treaties have been broken and the fires lit throughout"
The heir.
I guess its Joseph I, not Joseph II. Joseph I died 6 years before Maria Theresia was born.
Thanks for the translation.

And yes, it is written Joseph I.

Citeer: "Ecapoe"Thanks for the translation.

And yes, it is written Joseph I.
Weird. I guess the 18th century people made that mistake.
On this mocking medal from 1742 you can see on the obverse Cardinal Fleury, Prime Minister of France, who is showing a fold out map of Germany to three kings:
- King of Prussia, Elector of Brandenburg
- King of Poland, Elector of Saxony
- Elector of Bayern.
All three pointing out with their fingers to the countries belonging to the inheritance of Charles VI they're all
claiming for.

On the reverse you can see Maria Theresia from Austria (1717 - 1780) holding her oldest son Joseph II (1741 - 1790) in her arms.

Of course it was Joseph II, her oldest son. How can she hold someone in her arms who died 6 years before she was born!
Right. Am I stupid. Just answered too fast !!! Sorry. Corrected.

EssorProf, does that publication give the names of the kings ? I guess Prussia is Frederic II, Elector of Bavaria Charles Albert future Charles VII , and of Poland Augustus III.

Is there also clarification of BAV and BYR on the map ?

Last point: do they attribute it ? We have it as Austrian Netherlands but I don't know the source of this info.

The publication is an article in a local newspaper, not from a numismatic magazine. The article was about the collection "Van Woelderen" in the Urban Museum, and in that article specifically about historical medals.

"BAV" is the abbreviation for "BAVARIA", but no idea yet about "BYR".

The name of the kings are not mentioned in that article but I've found another website about this medal and you're right about the kings:
- Elector of Saxony: Friedrich August II (Frederic II)
- Elector of Bavaria: Karl Albrecht (Charles Albert)
- King of Poland: August III

On this website the abbreviations are also explained, except for "BYR". That's a pity because I knew the others but I don't know "BYR". I also didn't know "Oostene" stands for "Austria".

Just like on the article in that old newspaper, you also can see here the obverse is the side with the kings, and the reverse is the side with Maria Theresia and her son.

Could "BYR" refer to "Byzantinisches Reich" (Byzantine Empire)?

Here some reference numbers for that medal:
Montenuovo 1707
Julius 1711
