Hi all !
I just noticed that the edge inscription on this coin is doubled. Difficult to make a decent picture of it, but clearly visible wit a 10x magnifier. By the naked eye it looked a bit off.
Is this a reported error ? Does it increase the value of this coin ?
Top = doubled, bottom = normal
I think the 'doubled' coin was made with a fresh die, the second coin was made with a used die.
I do not know if 'die' is the correct word for the 'rolling' of the edge lettering

Segmented collar...Caisting machine...they are engraved. The Petition crown is an amazing piece of engraving. DIE may not be a usual term but we call the edge the third side of the coin. Dies strike the other two.

indeed. A machine to make an impression in the edge of a coin is called a castaing machine.
If the template is well used and somewhat worn, the impression is not so deep as with a new one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castaing_machine
