This photo was taken back in 2014, back when I was really still more interested in nail painting or whatever new fad the other kids in school were obsessed with that week than coins (hence the unprotected American Silver Eagle) :

If my collection were the United States, these would be the original 13 colonies. My comparatively humble collection then's best pieces were my Double Florin, Rocking Horse crown, my Newfoundland 1900 50 cents and 1831 Louis-Philippe I 1 Franc (funny thing is that I had no idea it wasn't that common when I bought it so long ago).

Looking back I'm kind of surprised at how my collection's developed since; anyone else care to share their collections' genesis?
I began "collecting" about ten or twelve years ago when for some reason i grabbed a small box with a few world coins. Then i were given some coins by family relatives. I also bought an other small box with coins on a flea market about seven years ago. I was never too serious about coins because i was more into stamps so i was just keeping them in a box. Last spring, after i gave up stamps, i took back my box. And so it begins. After a time lurking on others forums, just identifying coins, I bought some lot/coins. I found numista a bit after while looking for a coin on the internet. I was on the numista page but there was a mistake on the description so i registered to correct it. :D
I'm now much more interested into coins than i've ever been into stamps, even if i still like stamps.

I'm quite a new collector.
How I started: Found a box of coins while cleaning shelf from grandfather. Found something special inside, like JFK 1964 Half Dollar and etc.

And then, back when I was travelling to Europe a few months ago, I kept some commemorative coins with beautiful scenery. Then, I thought: I have had nothing to do recently, so why not start a coin collection? So, from a mere 180 coins in October 2017 with 20 countries, I have grown to have a passion for numismatics + Numista referee + over a thousand coins with more than 130 countries. I really hope I could keep expanding my humble collection for a few years! Good luck hunting for new coins! Best,SRL

P.S. I found Numista by accidentally clicking on the coin image link instead of magnifying it. It turned out to be a very useful site!
Hello to everybody
I started collecting coins on my first visit to my uncle after the opening of the border and the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. The uncle lived in Canada in Vencouver for the first time how he could come home after opening the borders I received from him the coin and it was the beginning of my relationship with the coins also he was scouring my wallet after visiting Holland and Spain.
I still do not know what the dollar is rare and where should I actually put it? I thought it was silver - but it's magnetic. I'll probably address Canadian experts!

forgive the turn

I inherited a coin collection from my grandfather 2 years ago, since then I doubled it in value but my grandfather's coins still make up the core of the collection. :)
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.
Well, when I was pretty young, about 10 or 11 I'd say, my dad gave me a box with around 200 coins he had from a lot of countries he had travelled to. I'm pretty sure the box also contained an old silver coin from my country (a 500 lei coin from 1944 from Romania, nothing valuable). Anyway, as a kid I obviously liked to play with them and had no real interest in coins.

However, around 3 years ago now (give or take) I somehow got my hands on some pretty interesting old Austrian coins that instantly sparked my interest. While I was searching around the internet to find the story behind the coins that I just got, I found a lot of other coins with interesting historical details behind them so my interest basically skyrocketed. A while later I got some other coins and it went on and on until I became serious when it comes to collecting.

I guess that's it. My interest in coins has never stopped to grow since. :)
My collection started when my grandpa gave me his travel coin box containing normal older and newer circulation coins from holidays but also a bunch of older coins from empire times and some from the states. He found them in the cellar floor which was just compacted earth in the early 60s, from the dates probaby put there at the end of WW1. I played with them since I was a child but only when I got them I started to catalog them and find out what actually was in it.

Sorted into countries with approx. position in Europe.

Since then I added to the pile, at first all I could get then slowly more specialized.
I got some coins as a child. I still have these in a wooden bowl.
i started to collect with 6

I can't see what the date is on your one dollar coin, PM me the date or a better photo and I'll be happy to help!

I can't remember when my collection started. I had an old box I kept coins in as a kid and I never stopped. Most of those coins were just standard pocket change that was damaged in an interesting way. There the odd foreign coin but those are very rare to just find here.
