CiteerSjoelundYou are right. "Western Africa" just means: everything what's in the west of Africa, independent from country borders.
We prefer eastern, southern etc when we are talking about rather indefinite areas, and east, south etc. for more clearly defined places.
West Africa is extremely well defined by real border lines of the included countries...
"West Africa" is a bit better, but what's wrong with "West African States". That's the name written on every single coin there: "ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST", French for West African States. And it's also the exact name where you can find these coins in all the major catalogues and web sites. Krause uses "West African States", Schön uses "Westafrikanische Staaten", German for "West African States", but that's obvious of course. We're not making Numista better by choosing a way no one else does.
Of course it's the same for the name "Central Africa" in our catalogue which should be "Central African States". Also here every single coin has written "ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE CENTRALE" on it, French for Central African States.
And the same for "Eastern Caribbean" which of course should be "East Caribbean States" like it is written on every single coin. "Eastern Caribbean" is a region, not a country.

I completely agree, I have nothing to add either! Well said.
I have one more thing to add. The correct names are West African States en Central African States, without the (BCEAO) and (BEAC) like it is now. These are just the abbreviations of the Bank. I'm from Belgium, not from Belgium (NBB), where NBB stands for National Bank of Belgium.
