Yes, I like this suggestion, and in particular the existence of lettering or engraved symbols on the edge. While you can search for edge text, it’s difficult to identify coins that have some sort of lettering without knowing the text beforehand.
The tricky thing now is that we use the guideline for edge but we don't apply it.
Let explain me better, I was asked to change Smooth to Plain in a token creation sending me the link to the guideline. But in the meantime the database is full of Smooth edge coins and tokens, so or we apply the rule and that's fine or you don't send me to a optional guideline when I create a new page ;-)
Edge types are currently free text. Once edge types are fixed in a drop down list a search will be easily implemented. It was promised for 2023 but pushed aside. https://en.numista.com/forum/topic73033.html#p1120925
