Public morality in societies (share about your country)

In Hong Kong, our levels of public morality is decreasing. As it the the peak of the flu season, I am surprised to find out many of my people in public do not wear masks when they are sick! Instead, it is rather surprising to find out that ill-free people have to wear masks to prevent themselves from getting infected by the sick, contradicting the original purposes of masks.

I also sometimes (as in once per week) find people spitting mucus to the street where everyone then steps on it uncautiously.

This is quite terrible, honestly, and I rarely see these in Europe - but is it really the case in other countries?

Thanks.
Have a good day!

Finland has:

-Hunters
-Sick murderers
-Internet trolls and neo nazis

These are the worst. With the hunters, I mean those who shoot pets and people in the forests. These people usually say "It was an accident" "I thought it was a wolf/lynx" these people are liars, and usually caught.

Sick murderers are sick. 2 late cases: In one, a girls mouth was taped and she was pushed under the sofa, where she died. In another a man had drowned multiple people. Other mad people are cat and dog killers.

But what have more than anything else is internet trolls, neo nazis and nationalists. We are a quiet country but when it comes to internet (Instagram, twitter, facebook etc.) there is thousands of finns shouting about Finland being the best country.

other more normal problems are: people not washing their hands, child abuse and drunk people driving cars. They say Finland is a good country and it is. The only thing we could do better is animal protection laws, no "1 summer cats".

About the last one, it's a very tragic thing to see those kinds of people becoming more and more confident about showing themselves in public recently, everywhere across Europe and elsewhere.... ;(

In both countries I associate with (the UK and France) public littering is admittedly kind of a problem I've noticed more and more recently, I've seen food wrappers, remains of food, and even that which food eventually becomes (poop) all littered around various Underground/Metro stations.
Littering in my neighborhood in the US is becoming worse and worse as the residents change. Lately it seems instead of buying we have large groups of people renting what are meant to be single-family homes. And they have multiple cars. As my family has no cars and only occasional visits by people in cars, the front of our property sees lots of parking by other residents. These people often clean trash out of their cars and dump it on our curb. Of course we never catch them. We find tons of cigarette butts, fast food wrappers and drink cups, plastic bags and bottles, even empty liquor bottles and used condoms.

Noise is a problem, particularly loud music late at night at one home, though this has lessened since the husband seems to have moved out. Another family has shouting matches at all hours.

My "favorite incident" of a public fight took place across the street one summer. The man of the house was nosing around in the woman's car and opened her purse and examined the contents. He didn't know it but she was watching from an upstairs window. She came running downstairs yelling and screaming and he just kept quiet. The next day he moved out.

I guess one of the biggest public morality problems in this country is the failure of fathers to acknowledge their children when the parents are not married.
Here's a link to show public morality downfall on airplanes (worldwide but probably mostly US).

And another link about very rude allegedly French tourist.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4389926/Backpacker-refused-smelly-feet-head-rest.html

I know much of the world has this view of ugly Americans but my experiences (coincidentally in Thailand) showed Israelis and French to be much ruder. French tour group tried to jump queue for a Thai flight when it boarded after a long delay and then got upset when other passengers (tourists too) refused to let them pass. And the Israelis traveled to Ayutthaya by boat with a buffet lunch at the end. They cleared almost all the food (easily seen to be more than the group could eat) and then left most of it on their plates, leaving virtually nothing for the poor tourist group boarding the boat for the trip in reverse direction. The Israelis also refused to follow the tour guide's instructions to maintain the same seats on the return trip to Bangkok, as they changed seats after every stop even though the bus was full. And to give Americans their due, a very large man on a trip to Norway just about emptied a large plate of crab set out at a buffet, saying he was sure they would refill for the next diners. Instead the hotel staff rushed to clear away the plate and spread out other food so no one would know crab had even been offered. On another trip to Jordan, an old American grouch refused to eat anything but Jell-O, emptying a huge bowl provided for the whole group in the hotel restaurant every night. He said he just came on the trip to take photos of Petra and didn't give a damn about anything or anyone else. He caused a scene at the Petra Treasury site as he refused to move along saying he would wait for perfect conditions for his photos.

Here, there are actually people who are some of good quality others are as bad that there are chaos everywhere : a mix of people in outside main cities like Dhaka. Here there are street gang fights and people here always are alert. Publicly, a morality called "politeness"and "honesty" is slowly decreasing on gradient. Worst still, there are ticket blackings, stealing (not common - but still good to be alert) etc. Another group of people are racists and having painful, sarcastic comments on anyone is common about the Bengalis here. Literacy is increasing but slowly. Some people out side the main cities don't respect each other, some defy law. Once, I was travelling by train, it suddenly stopped and a ticket checker threw out 2 boys out of it because they had a rude behaviour on him. They were eventually following until one came up and up and threw himself and almost in to steal a phone on my window of the man sitting opposite. They couldn;t do it. Another day, at night, I saw at the airport railway station, that 2 white friends were teased by some loathsome fellows (rasicsts) who were later caught up. People unusually blow horns here, so we call this the sound of "typical Bengal'. Other than these bizarre turn of events here, there are still, as it seems in everyday life, people here are not quite bad. But people here are not silent, people protest for justice and are effective.

The trick is to hit the packleader very hard on the head and then the others run away screaming. I learned that from an indigenous chief.

With an uncertain future in the uk and trouble in the devolved governments the country is divided.
Many people blame 'brexit' and rightly so, but many other factors are stirring the pot.
Still, many people are continuing the GB spirit that was forged in the days when we stood alone against Nazi Europe. I am a pessimist but that means I expect the worst, prepare and hope for the best.
As long as the cupboards are full and the family is united we should not moan but push forward and strive to achieve our best,

and as Paavo Väyrynen said:

"People no longer vote for the politicians, in the next presidential election most will vote artists, singers or other entertainers. This is why I will not participate ever again"

Just think what will happen if those people start leading the country. You have seen Trump, but what if some hollywood actor or actress becomes the US president for example? Paavo is right. These days the young members of society need to know atleast something about politics.

Remember who wrote a book and talked a lot, and became the leader of Germany? I think we should fear this. I know, Väyrynen is a bit dangerous too if he is given too much power, but what he said is definitely true.
Inconsiderate behavior knows no borders, in any age.

But the opposite is also true.... a decent human can come from anywhere at any time.

This is quite subjective, but Reagan wasn't that good a president in my humble opinion, & in retrospect.... Nowadays many people ridicule his 'trickle down economics', 'Star Wars defence program' and his War on Drugs, and refusal to support AIDS research, etc.. From accounts given by older acquaintances who were about when he got elected in 1980, there was the same controversy we saw in 2016, like 'An actor can't be president'. For all that though, at least Reagan had his charm and personality (if not hindsight). There's something insulting about comparing "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" to the Mango Mussolini & his "big beautiful wall". :x

@Coinman In any group of a few million people there's going to be a few daft chickens in them, so I'm not that surprised we hear the most about annoying American, Chinese, Indian, tourists. Is it just me or is the common stereotype of the lazy, fat, culture-illiterate 'ricain eating burgers in Rome or Paris now giving way to Chinese tourists carving their names into ancient monuments? Either way I choose to have faith that both examples are the exception rather than the case nowadays.

Is it really true that https://m.iltalehti.fi/ulkomaat/201802202200759637_ul.shtml "Parents aren't sharing tips on food etc., they are sharing tips on how to protect a child from a killer" Is the situation THIS bad? Same Finnish newspaper had an article 2 days ago about how almost all children are going to soon have a bulletproof bags...
A lot of things have changed in a year.

I should try that on the neighborhood kids.
Iltalehti is not exactly a quality newspaper, so this is to be taken with a grain of salt.

Finland is a pretty good country to live in. The biggest disadvantage is the climate, but summers are nice and the air is a lot less polluted than in the Netherlands where I live now. Culturally the two countries are pretty similar. The Dutch air is pretty polluted but in return the location is great, the economy provides plenty of opportunities and the standard of living is excellent.

The Dutch have a different sense of personal space than Finns, who prefer more distance. Dutch are very honest but sometimes quite blunt and undiplomatic. And in the city they can be quite impatient, as everyone's in a hurry. But the good thing is that I also witness a new wave of verbal politeness going around, explicitly thanking bus drivers or other public servants for doing their job. I hope that trend will continue for the better.

As for politicians, I have the feeling that their average education levels have been inversely correlated with the levels of the general population. Never before were so many people educated, but politicians seem to be less and less educated. With all the media exposure the job of a politician became the job of an actor. To avoid the stupidity of campaigning I want surprise elections to be called on a random morning.

I will return to original post. ;)

I would very much like to invite you to Czech Republic now, during flu season. Nobody and I mean it, I never saw that in my whole life, wears mask. 8)

People are sneezing and coughing right next to you in the tram. Actually, person with mask would be considered weird.

I would not comment the mass of chewing gum on the streets (people still believe that it stays in them for 10 years if they it, haahahaa)

Internet trolls and idiots - this is usually one big category, together with drunkards and gypsies, who steal everything are quite normal here as well.

Wow... not even a mask?
I'd better travel to Praha during non-flu season next timez|

And I am lucky to say that Hong Kong has one of the safest securities, with stealing only occuring with a 0.1% chance in tourist destinations.

However, as compared to 2008, where people helping to open doors and pick up things are common...

In 2018, I once went in a building and when I was about to walk in through the door, a person pushed me through, slammed back the door, causing me to trip, and did not even care to look back.

How times changed!

People are much less caring about each other. Most people used to greet, now they don't. One time, I witnessed a man tripped by playing teenagers in the middle of the traffic light during RED LIGHT! The teenagers did not even bother to look at the man AND the cars, potentially dangerous. Some Hong Kongers do not have manners.

I am sure many of you heard about the Central occuption. (Umbrella movement)

I am neutral about this, but what I am surprised to see is 95% of the people not knowing one single thing about politics, and followed just because of their friends which followed, etc.

Lack of political sense! :(
I forgot to tell you a story about Finnish manners. I went into a bus. Then there from the hallway comes a old woman in her early 90s, and starts shouting "I have the right to go from this door" and starts beating me with her walking stick.
She probably thought I did that on purpose. And that was the day when I learnt: if you see a old woman holding a walking stick up, walk away very quickly.

Ever heard of Pekka Siitoin? There is also many of his supporters on the move, Still.
He was the most horrible politician we ever had.

He tried to blow up Kekkonen himself, almost killed communists and had quite a lot of supporters. (He is the oldest man in the photo) He even said he was a son of a german officer. He definitely was called the hitler, and also rude and disgusting. He had sexual relationships with multiple politicians and is known as the most disgusting, oppitunistic and even sadistic politician Finland has ever had. He was also completely mad.

Yeah, why didn't I see it before he and his assist had their Swastika wrapped around them. He fancies himself as Hitler was. I understand he don;t have that much qualities that Hitler had and he seems to enjoy himself more seriously than Hitler was at work, btw he already died.
and
Did he win any election- alas, he could have a dictatorship and the world could see a living Adolf Hitler.
