Silver is chucked into the reject section with some copper/old/mangled coins.
People then walk by and check the ​reject bin for change.

​If the coins do not weigh the current weights for US coinage, they spit out in a refuse tray. Many people leave the coins behind. Sometimes they are the US silver coins or pre-1983 copper pennies. Foreign coins also spit out. I just look in the bin when I shop. They have them in our grocery stores.
