I rarely use the Search function in the Catalogue tab since I rarely find what I'm looking for, and it rarely makes life easier for me.

This is what I just did to find an American Gold $10 coin.
I clicked on Search in the Catalogue tab and typed in 10 Dollars, and changed the country to United States.
This is what I got:

Six pages, but not all were 10 dollar coins, as you can see. Why is the ½ cent and 1 cent coins showing when I'm searching 10 Dollars?

I then made it more specific and added the date, 1912.
This is what I got:

Why do I get a hit on four (4!) coins when there's just one (ONE!) coin that is titled "10 Dollars"? And surprisingly enough, the coin titled 10 Dollars was the coin I was looking for. Not the 20 Dollars or the 1 Dime coin. Weird, huh?

If I write 10 I'm clearly not interested in coins with denomination 1, as well as if I search for 2 I'm not interested in coins with 2500 as denomination. If I were, I would've searched for 2500 in the first place. This really needs to be fixed.
I believe it's just a simple matter of a mixup in trigger words; for example the 1/2 cent is KM#10, which is why it responded to your search for "10 Dollars". Any coin page with "10" will also be brought up by the search, so it's probably easier to find the coin via denomination search anyhow.

Also, I did exactly what you did but got dozens of coins. Glitch in the Matrix?
But what about the second pic? four coins, no km #10..and if I just search 1912 I get this:

so it's not all coins that includes 1912 that are shown either..so, yeah, maybe it is a glitch in the matrix after all :P
I agree that the search results are not intuitively right. So I use search by KM. For example, if I need the regular Austrian 2 euro coin, I search for "Austria 3089" instead of "Austria 2 euro".
(There was a thread with similar complaints.)

well, that works as long as you know the km number..which i seldom do..
I cannot check, but search takes into account all text on the page. So if there are some comments on those pages, that would include "10 dollars" or something similar, it gave it as a result. You can try it with searching for goat. Outside of coins with goats, you will find some Bohemia results where goat is mentioned in comments.

There are currently 845 coins listed from the United States. If you only search the word Dollar, you will get 845 results. That is probably because Dollar is in the currency name. Even so, I cannot seem to find where the 10 is located on the 1 cent coin's page. Stranger yet, when I do the same search on the French version, the cent disappears from the results.

But what may help is by placing 10 Dollars in quotation marks. That way, the search will bring up results with the phrase "10 Dollars" rather than results with both "10" and "Dollars".

nice, thanks! :)
that reminds me when google was new and you had to make searches like "how+to+cook+pasta" to get the right results. otherwise you'd get thousands (today you'd get millions) of hits just because you used the word "the". i thought we were past that time though :P
strange it works (as it should :°) on the french side though..
