When I have a coin with a different dating system, I use the NumisDoc calendars to translate the date, and I get translations such as
Result:
Year 1327 in the Persian calendar: March 21, 1948 - March 20, 1949
or Year 1327 in the Islamic calendar: January 23, 1909 - January 12, 1910
However, when I then search for the coin, I have stopped using the Gregorian calendar answers and just use "1327". I search this way because the coin might list a completely different Gregorian calendar year, such as
"1327 (1916)".
Why do different pages have different values for the same number? Is it just that I am misunderstanding something?
Thanks!
If you mean Ottoman coins, like this one, then the AH date is the beginning of the period, but actual striking date equals AH date + mintmark-like number on the other side (this system of dates and mintmarks is similar to the one used for Spanish pesetas). Maybe Gregorian date given on Numista is actual date.
Thanks numinis,
That is probably what I am encountering. I will check to see if I only see it on coins where there is a regnal year. I will also make sure I am not selecting "Islamic" when the correct choice is "Persian".
I'll assume that must be it unless I can find an example that does not include those possibilities.

Did it for you.
