Hello,
Could someone please tell me exactly what this coin is?
I have narrowed it down as far as the state of Tyrol in Austria. I just can't find an exact match. The condition and value would also be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ben

Hey Ben,
The central part of the coat of arms on the reverse marks it as belonging to (Upper) Alsace, then a domain of the Habsburgs:

Bad news, though- I am
extremely doubtful about the authenticity of your coin.

Oh dear! Could you please elaborate further on how it could be a fake. Is there any way to know roughly what era it was made when faked?
Thanks for finding the exact link for me though it was doing my head in.

The pitting on the surface means it's most likely a cast copy

When you say the pitting do you mean all the small concave bumps? Sorry if it sounds like a silly question but I don't have any knowledge on this type of coin.

I have to agree, the details and background are very crude, what can be expected with cast copies/fakes/replicas
compare weight and dimensions

Yes, those little concave bumps are usually evidence of casting because they were likely formed by air bubbles during the manufacturing process for fakes like those.

Based on weight, it is fake. It is thaler and weight should be 25-30g.

What is thickness ? It could be 1/2 thaler, with that weight, but there is not diameter in Numista catalogue at this 1/2 thaler, so I am not sure.

Is there any possible way to know when this coin was made now that it is pretty much confirmed as being a fake?

It could be a contemporary replica/copy or a rather modern tourist replica

Citeer: "XRY-478" Is there any possible way to know when this coin was made now that it is pretty much confirmed as being a fake? Hard to say, I dont know what is usual thickness in this coins (1/2 thalers ) according to weight, which is correct it could be 1/2 thaler, but diameter is too big in my opinion. Try to find out if it is silver. Regarding coins from Ostereich and Tyrol could help Ecapoe. Try to write him. He helped me with identification of my thaler of Ferdinand II Tyrolis.

The coin is not genuine (IMO), the typical replica surface (like mentioned above).
Gebruikte tijdzone is UCT+2:00. Huidige tijd is 00:04.
