Last coin to identify!

Hi All,

As you may have seen, I have been hogging this corner of the forum in recent weeks, however, I have the last coin in my 'unknown' pot to identify! That said, I need your help again!

Weight: c. 7.27g
Dia: 28.6mm
Not magnetic

I have this coin which was dug up metal detecting in Northern Poland. It wasn't my dig but the person who dug it up labelled it 'Roman Coin'. It seems too round to be Roman but I am no expert.

One side is completely corroded and the obverse you can see a bust outline, some lettering above bust and maybe a number 6 at the bottom (1806)?

I am interested as to what it could be. The other coins found on the same dig were Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth around 1666, just for info :)

Would anyone agree that this might be a very corroded UK George III 1/2 Penny, 1806?. Looking at bust, layout e.t.c. Except it was definitely found in Poland and the weight is a couple grams off (just wear?) https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4212.html

Thanks in advance all :)

Hey Dan,

Not to worry, we love a good mystery. ;)

Your coin is indeed too round to be Roman; and that's because it's actually a very damaged 1806 British halfpenny of George III: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4212.html

Hey,

I literally just edited it to include my guess that it might be a George III 1/2 Penny :O You beat me to it!

Thanks again, I'm glad you agree!

Not at all!

The real mystery is how it got to Poland.B.
