We have an Omani gold coin that we would love to have some more information/value on. It is in excellent condition and comes in a red leather box with Central Bank of Oman on the outside of the box and an emblem of the UK Royal Mint on the inside gold silk. It weights 36 grams and is 24 carat. Any information on its meaning/date or value would be very helpful. Thank you.
As you can see on the coin page, it has a bullion value of almost $1,000 USD.
Proof coins should never be taken out of their capsules and certainly not touched with bare hands. In this case, damage is already irreversible: there is a haze around the rim and fingerprints on both obverse and reverse.
While a well preserved proof coin will eventually fetch over bullion value, I doubt if this one will. But I may not be the best person to judge, as this coin is well outside my league.
