Side A: The inscription in Latin letters surrounds a large central area. The inscription is difficult to read, partly due to its antique design but also because the letters are quite worn, and the tops of some letters have been clipped off in places.
The large inner circle features 3 open crowns alternating with 3 fleur-de-lys, perhaps suggesting French origins. In the centre of this group is a 6-petal open flower, possibly a rose.
Side B: As with Side A, an inscription in Latin letters surrounds a large central area, which is much less clear than Side A. The basic design seems to be 4 joined hemispherical lobes at right-angles to each other, forming an enclosed, clover-like shape. Inside are other designs too worn to identify clearly. At (or near) the centre is what looks like a small circle (approximately 5mm in diameter) containing something resembling an italicised capital A.
The coin is non-magnetic (suggesting a non-ferrous metal) and coloured dark brown, though this may be due to patination than its original colouration.
