Citeer: neilithicI recently picked up a coin that wasn't what I thought it was. It turns out the coin is from an obscure little province call Elblag in Poland but was issued in the years that the city was occupied by the Swedish. The coin is for the ruler "Kristina" for the year 1633 and is for the value of 3 polker or 1/24 thaler. I can't find a KM number for it but I have managed to find a listing for it under the catalogue number AHL 5. I'm not sure what catalogue this is and I'm also not sure which category on this site I should add the coin to. Any suggestions?
The reference is probably to Ahlströmmer but I don't know which publication. Usually when referencing Swedish possessional coinage Ahlströmmer, Almer and Jonsson wrote the book "Coins of the Swedish possessions", usually called AAJ in references. As the control of the mint in Elbing changed from the city to the Swedish administration some coins are minted with CIV ELB in writing when minted for by the city and some with REG SWE when minted by the Swedish administration. This went on parallel so in AAJ the minting is separated in two groups.
Your coin is Elbing (Swedish crown) AAJ 11 in that list. I have the coin on my website about Swedish Possessional coinage.

Sorry, the site is all in Swedish.

The Swedish had possession of the Baltic states during this time
- Reval (1561-1710)
- Narva (1581-1704)
- Riga (1621-1707)
- Livland (1629-1709)
- Elbing (1626-1636, 1655-1660)
Minting were done in all of the states, although not continuously. I'm planning to add the coins from this period to the catalog but I don't know exactly under which region.
But since coins from Reval appears here I guess that it should be sorted under respective current state. In this case as Elblag - Poland
