Austria-Hungary: krone or korona?

Hi,

Is it intentional that the 1892-1918 currency is labelled as "krone" under Austria but "korona" under Hungary? eg see these two coins:

Dear Alastor,

I hope it is intentional!
Although the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy often is considered as one country, in fact it was two countries with the same Monarch. The 2 countries had all ministries separated with exception of 1) Foreign Affairs 2) Defense.
The monetary system was centralized under the Austro-Hungarian National Bank. Just like the European Central Bank today (responsible for the euro) however, the currency had the local versions.
You can find more similarites then the Krone-Korona, like the Heller-Fillér for its change, or the Florin-Forint pair earlier. If in doubt which is which country, check the reverse: The Hungarian usually has one of these symbols:
- the Hungarian crown with a tilted cross on top
- the Madonna with the child
- the Hungarian coat of arms (7x cut red-silver field on right, double cross on a triple hill on left)
The Austrian one usually has the Habsburg eagle.

The lettering might also help, Hungarian coins are in Hungarian after 1848, Austrians stick to Latin for a while, then switch to German.

In general, I think it is correct to call a currency here on Numista on how the locals call it (see also Frank and Franc, or Groschen (German), Groszy (Polish) etc...)
Thanks for the response!
