On the Tenth Anniversary of the War of Independence, during which the establishment of the State was proclaimed and Israel's Defence Forces were formed, the Israel Government Coins and Metals Corporation issued a special State medal to commemorate the valour of the Children of Israel in their homeland.
On obverse side, the emblem of the Israeli army - a sword entwined by an olive branch. preparedness for war together with striving for peace. A citation from Psalms: "peace be within thy walls" in a semi-circle lettering.
On reverse side, a relief of the roaring lion of Tel Hai, commemorating Joseph Trumpeldor's heroism, together with citations from Nehemia: "For the builders everyone had his sword girded by his side". Citation appears in Hebrew stylized font at the center of the medal, with the English translation in semi-circle on the rim.
The edge of the medal is also engraved by the state of Israel.

On obverse the legend is יהי שלום בחילך transliterated y'hi shalom becheilech, meaning peace be within thy walls (Psalm 122:7). The reverse legend: והבונים איש חרבו אסורים על מתניו transliterated vehabbonim ish charbo asurim al-matenav, meaning for the builders every one had his sword girded by his side (Nehemiah 4:18).
