As usual in Canada since the 1970s, new series are not released all at once but gradually. The new $10 bill was released about two years ago. They're now thinking about a new $5, but the design has not even been chosen.
That is good and bad news for her.
Bad. Cannot be on this new banknote. Would be truly gutted
Good. She is still alive. I expect she is truly happy with that.
Aaaah ─ I'm sure they'll get a lot of submissions for Neil Peart!
In the very unlikely event he were chosen, I imagine his face shown in ⅓ profile with the drum kit in the background on one side and a four-line quote from his lyrics on the other. What would be a good four line quote for this purpose?

if the dream is won
though everything is lost
we will pay the price
but we will not count the cost
Appropriate for a banknote!
I saw rush live in 97 and 07, but my vote would be for someone even more famous: Sir Timothy Horton
I suspect it will be a social activist, not an artist.
I just hope the Bank of Canada will not take its inspiration from the $20/$20 programme of the RCM and come up with a Superman¹ $10 note ...

¹ Apparently, Superman is a Canadian creation.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Just watched a programme that had a piece about him yesterday.
He was a Metis (First Nations/French Voyageur-Quebecois) who basically is considered the father of Manitoba. From an educated and well off family, he was incensed with all the Anglo Canadian immigrants moving into Manitoba and imposing their culture on the Metis, First Nations and French speaking communities.
He ran his own government and tried to block the Anglos, after shooting apparently one of them and trying to overthrow Canadian authority - he was tried for high treason and found guilty, being hung in 1885. His execution site in Winnipeg is now a shrine. After a long process, he was pardoned in the 2000s - interesting person.

For sure there will be submissions for Louis Riel as well, but I'd be surprised if they selected a political figure. They'll go for a social activist who has no skeleton in his/her closet.
E. Pauline Johnson aka Tekahionwake was shortlisted for the $10 note. I wouldn't be surprised if she was shortlisted again. I don't know whether she has any of those skeletons in her closet that would disqualify her in this age of political correctness.
Terry Fox is the odds on favorite now. I would like Pierre Trudeau. That would sure stir the country up. My local dealer has a Trudeau coin on display. I think he has to clean the case every once and a while. Expectorations.
If they choose an athlete they will certainly go with an Olympic over a professional one ─ and remember candidates have to be dead!
As for Terry Fox, yes, he is likely to get many, many votes ─and deservedly so─ but it could be argued he was honoured with a dollar coin some years ago.
