India Delhi Jital?

3 berichten • 82 keer bekeken
I recently purchased a group of "Ancient" coins that I am trying to Identify (confirm). I have minimal information that was provided for each coin, but I am having trouble verifying the information provided, and filling in the gaps. I will list them each separately for help with these.

I have two coins with the same basic information.

This one is India, Sultanate of Delhi, Jitar. Listings that I found were not quite the same. The coin is 3.1 grams, and 8mm. Not sure of the metal composition.

Also, supposedly, India, Sultanate of Delhi, Jitar. The coin is 3.5 grams, and 8 x 15mm. Metal composition unknown.

Thank you in advance for any help on these. Colin
I believe these could have either a horseman or a bull on one side and the writing on the other. They are similar to some jitals of Ghazna or Yildiz, ca. 1200 AD. They are related to, but different from (because they have one side with all writing) the famous bull & horseman jitals of that time from the Delhi Sultanate. Jitals are normally billon (some mixture of silver and copper) but often the silver content is very low.

You might be able to match them to the illustrations in Tye's book Jitals, free .pdf download available here:

Thank you. I will have a look and see if I can match it.
