Do you think they are more or less collectable than regular notes? Do you think that they deserve a premium? Why is it that replacement (star) notes are so popular from the USA? Many websites mention what replacement notes are from various countries such as using different letters (R in Argentina, X in Indonesia), * is used in the Philippines and India and other countries have other notations for their replacement notes. Why are some of these countries' notes visible yet some countries have no mention of their replacement notes. For example Thai replacement notes use a พ in the Thai version of the serial number yet no websites publicize this. Do any of you know of other country's replacement notes indications that are not published? Are there countries that do not make replacement notes at all? What do they do when there are printing problems?
It really doesn't matter what I think; replacement notes are more collectible than regular notes, and thus carry a premium. As to why some issuers feel it's necessary to make the distinction and others don't is not a question I can answer. It certainly would be nice if there was uniformity, but there are multiple ways different issuers do it, even within a single country (Canada comes to mind).
