Trying to identify two Sassanian coins

3 berichten • 96 keer bekeken
Hi, everyone! I just received two ancient Sassanian coins and I'm having trouble identifying them. I've taken the measurements and gotten an approximate weight of each coin, stated below with the photos. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks

COIN 1

Approx. weight: 4g
Diameter: 28mm
Thickness: a little less than 1 mm

I took the photo of the first side (with the bust) and then had to rotate the coin 90 degrees counter-clockwise to get the second photo to be oriented the same way.

COIN 2

Approx. weight: 3g
Diameter: 26mm
Thickness: a little less than 1 mm

I took the photo of the first side (with the bust) and then had to rotate the coin 90 degrees counter-clockwise to get the second photo to be oriented the same way. (as with coin 1)

Edit: I have seen some coins that these look similar to, but wanted to see what you all think. Thanks for any and all help!
The best sites I know for identifying Sasanian coins are

http://beastcoins.com/Sasanian/Sasanian.htm

and

http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/sasania/sasanian.html

You may be able to find some matches there. The first coin appears to have the mint name AW (Erankhvarrah-Shapur), but that's as far as I got. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about these coins will chime in.
