Hello everyone!
I finally reached one of my milestones of 275 "Numista Countries"! I wanted to share my excitement with my Numista fellows, because who else would I share it with?:) I know there are quite a few people who are trying to collect "Numista countries" as well, I completely understand this approach. It has been an interesting journey so far, with lots of new information researched, history and geography learned. Special thank you to some Numista swappers, and, of course, my wallet.
My next milestone is 280 countries, and after that possibly 285. Further, it will be extremely/impossibly hard.
To make this post also useful for other people, I put down a list of 26 "Numista countries" that I still don't have. I also put short comments about them and assigned a Level (From 1 to 5) depending on how hard/expensive it is to obtain a coin from that "Numista country". Please, feel free to share your thoughts, ideas, possible corrections. Please, tell me where you are standing regarding the number of countries, what countries did you find hard/easy.
Countries and territories:
1. British East Indies (Level 1). I have some unconfirmed arrangements to have an in-person swap with another Numista member, but we postponed it for after the COVID time. It is not a hard "country" to obtain.
2. Burkina Faso (Level 1). I also have some unconfirmed arrangements for after COVID. Cheapest price range $10-15.
3. Central American Republic (Level 2). There are coins on sale, the price starts at around $30. I am just waiting for a right coin at a right price to pass by.
4. Isles de France and Bonaparte (Level 4). Very rare coins. I have seen several coins on sale. $1,500+
5. Kievan Rus (Level 5). Or more correct name "Ruthenia". Extremely rare coins. I have never seen original coins on sale.
6. Qatar and Dubai (Level 1). The same story with an in-person swap. It is not a hard "country" to obtain.
7. Saint Barthelemy (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
8. Sint Maarten (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
9. Tashir-Dzoraget, Kingdom of (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
Ancient and early medieval polities
10. Avar Khaganate (Level 5). Extremely rare gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.
11. Burgundian Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare mostly gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.
12. Celts (Level 2). I have a Gaul coin, but I cannot identify it. It needs to be added to the Numista catalog, but I have not found enough information about it yet.
13. Egypt (ancient) (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
14. Etruria (Level 5). Extremely rare coins, very few on sale. $4,000+
15. Herulian Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
16. Italy (ancient) (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
17. Lombard Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
18. Mauretania (Level 3). There are coins on sale. I am waiting for the right coin and price. $150+
19. Mesopotamia (Level 5). Extremely rare coins. I have never seen them on sale.
20. Ostrogothic Kingdom (Level 3). There are coins on sale. Also a lot of fakes on eBay from Serbia. Waiting for the right price and coin. $100+
21. Philistia, Cities of (Level 2). This "country" was added separately to Numista during the last month. I will need to look at it more, but I believe there are coins starting at $30+
22. Suebi Kingdom (Level 5). Extremely rare mostly gold coins. I have never seen them on sale.
23. Taman, Goths from (Level 4). Honestly, I have a lot of questions about why this "country" is listed separately, as there are numerous other Goth tribes that are not listed. And most if not all coins are imitations of other coins. I have never seen it on sale, but one Numista member has them.
24. Uncertain Germanic tribes (Level 5). "Country" that I have the most questions about. It seems that it is basically "etc." coins from Germanic tribes. No idea how to approach it.
Modern states with limited recognition
25. Abkhazia (Level 2). There are coins on sale at $80+. But I am not sure if I am ready to buy them [Moderated to remove political opinion]
26. South Ossetia (Level 3). There are coins on sale at $200+. The same situation, I am not sure if I am ready to buy them [Moderated to remove political opinion]
To sum up the Levels:
Level 1: 3
Level 2: 4
Level 3: 3
Level 4: 2
Level 5: 14
