Why it is needed for user to have Austria highlighted as well when the actual place was in France? In response to a question, there can be two or more places shown.

For Sulfur: - Bohemia post is still there (You can change it to "Done:" and list for Pejounet),.

Spanish states are done. There are some new ones worth checking as well.
Lundy is done.
Pskov republic is done.
Hungarian states are done, including the ones you were unsure of.

Hello,
I guess I am being too flexible with the idea of highlighting only in relation to the present modern country.
My point is that a user - like me - may like to have Austrian coinage, whether further or not, highlighted with the others.
So it is not a question of maps Sulfur, no need to look more. I know where was Vorder Österreich and it is a complicated time x space issue.

In fact a source for confusion for Further Austria is that there is an issuer with that name that is a small part of the whole FA that issued coins with mint-mark H (Burgau-Günzburg) even with the name written on 3 and 6 kreuzer coins + an issuer Margraviate of Burgau Mint mark H and a bit earlier coins. Maybe we should join them ?

I will respect the decision anyway :D. I understand combining geographic and political rules may result unfeasible.

But, ... if you like maps and use the rule of % of the territory that is now in modern countries, you can have a look at Montfort and calculate how much was in Germany, in Austria, and Italy :D (just annoying sorry ...)
Quand l'Histoire et la Géographie se croisent sur nos pièces de monnaie ...
Not sure how I forgot about Bohemia. All above countries are now edited, although, I am not seeing any new Spanish states to check (I did thirteen, and the thirteen are still the only ones listed).

And I guess having an Austrian state highlighted somewhere other than Austria may be a bit confusing, but... that's geography. ;) I feel like the most confusing in that regard is the Hungarian States. Slovenia is in Croatia, Transylvania is in Romania, and a lot of the others are not in Hungary. Still, those places are where they were.

I am not sure about the mints though--coins can be minted anywhere, regardless of the territories they were issued for, so if we highlighted the map based on mints, a lot of places could turn out to be extremely spread-out. I know there are people who would prefer to see larger countries only highlighted in the area their capital city was in, so if there was a capital city in Austria, that may be a reason to highlight Austria, even if there was only a small portion in that country.

Maybe it would help more if Austria was added to the "See also" links of Further Austria and Burgau? I have yet to work on the "See also" links of the Austrian States, or really the majority of the places ending in 'states', but that still could possibly help.
India - Danish
India - Dutch
India - French

and whole Livonia post is now done. Phew. /!\

More later.

EDIT:
Bulgaria has see also link now.
Second Bulgarian Empire has map and see also link.
Byzantine Empire now has correct map.
Ottoman Empire now has correct map.

EDIT 2:
Batavian republic and Holland Kingdom are now correctly on map.
Poland Duchies - not needed yet.
Central Asia not needed yet.
Celtic Danube is done.
Indo-Sasanian Kingdom is done.
Hunnic Empire is done.
Ancient Persia is not needed yet.
South Africa and South Africa - Pre-Union done for now.

EDIT 3:
Austria-Habsburg is done.
Austria is ok.
Hungary is done.
United States, United States - Pre-Federal,Danish West Indies seems fine.
I skipped Iran, since ancient Persia will get divided.
British West Indies - I tried to put as much as I could there, it does not let me add British Virgin Island for unknown reason, maybe there are too many. Also St. Kitts/Nevis I could not put there. There is some character limit I guess. But it is done.

The Ottoman Empire is mapped over a lot of modern countries now. Including Moldova (never was an integral part of the empire - was a part of the [tributary] Principality of Moldavia!), Romania (tiny pockets [northern Dobruja] only) and Djibouti (super extra peripheral and probably some form of indirect rule, as in so many other parts of the Ottoman empire). It's not mapped over Algeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Sorry, guys, but this just so super random. The Ottoman Empire started in Turkey, ended in Turkey, and no sultan has ever resided outside Turkey. The relationship between the Turks and Djibouti is like that between shrimp and a packaged cheese sandwich ("Allergy statement: may contain traces of shrimp").

Could you please stop this ahistorical nonsense? <irony> Otherwise, can you please map Monaco over France? The towns of Roquebrune and Menton, which used to make up 95% of the principality, were under the Grimaldis for 500 years before the 1848 revolution and are now within France. This important historical fact should definitely be reflected in the map!</irony>
Hmm, I agree that Djibouti is overkill and that we should probably exclude those which were not under direct rule.
Catalogue administrator
Citeer: "Coin Pioneer"It's not mapped over Algeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The areas in Algeria and Saudi Arabia were too small compared to the modern areas of those two countries. Iraq, on the other hand, was just missed. There are a lot of countries that needed to be added, and in my original post regarding the area, it looks like Iraq was the only forgotten one.

I guess I will look at the Ottoman Empire again. At one point, they had a lot of the area surrounding the Red Sea, and on some maps I have seen, their areas boarding the sea went completely into Djibouti and into Somalia (though their area in that place would have been too small to include). Still, I will look at it again. Although, it may take a few days--I have been a little busy lately.
Ottoman Empire rechecked.
Persia Ancient was splitted. I tried to add map to all three new issuers, but it will probably need to be rechecked.
Iran now has links to Parthian Empire, Sasanian Empire and Achaemenid Empire.
France Feudal has correct map links now.
Lorraine map links are now done.
Comtat Venaissin see also done.
Cahors, Bishopric and City of - this cannot be fixed for now.

We are looking on how to improve the map. Nothing concrete for now, so I will continue. I agree that big empires might present some sort of problems, to which there is no easy solution.

Best regards,
Jarek

Done map-checking: Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Parthian Empire.
Alrighty, Ottoman Empire:

Out of every place currently highlighted, the only one I think should be removed is Georgia. They had a lot of conflicts with the Ottomans, and always struggled for their independence, but it seems that even during the years they were conquered, they still retained a lot of their independence.

And out of every place currently not highlighted, it looks like the only country that should be added is Hungary. The Ottomans had full control over a lot of modern-day Hungary, and that seems to be shown on many maps. Not sure how I missed that.
All fixed. I removed also Montenegro from Ottoman Empire, as they never took full control there as well. Same goes with Hungary, it might be better to leave it out.

Pitcairn Island, British Indian Ocean Territories, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are done.

Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Saint Helena and Ascension, Tristan de Cunha are done.

Windward Islands are done.
Something eludes me, but why are Windward islands connected to French Oceania/Polynesia??

Etruria is done.
Lombard Kingdom is done.

Cyprus was also under the Ottoman Empire as well - until 1878,when Cyprus came under British rule.

Greece,Bulgaria,& Albania were also part of the Ottoman Empire as well, along with Moldavia & Wallachia (now part of Romania).

Citeer: "Jarcek"Windward Islands are done.

Overseas French territories ? Or something about the Leeward Islands in French Polynesia : in French we call the Windward Islands "Îles du Vent" and the Leeward Islands "Îles sous le Vent" ; it's quite confusing.

However I think we should replace them with Martinique and Guadeloupe (they are much more relevant here).
French Kingdom instead of France too.
And adding French colonies as well on the list : it was the following issuer on this area.
Done: Windward Islands
Hopefully fixed. <:D

As per the "Overview of Country Changes List"...

Done: Bishopric of Courland

Done map-checking: Bophuthatswana, Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal - Grand principality, Athens - Duchy, Licchavi Kingdom, Malla Dynasty, Bhaktapur Kingdom, Kathmandu Kingdom, Patan Kingdom, Nepal - Medieval, Ausona - County, Besalú - County, Girona - County, Himyarite Kingdom, Chios, Lordship of

Done: Windwards Islands.

-----

Now, I have a question. Hungary is a sub-section of Hungary; Greece is a sub-section of Greece; Belize is a sub-section of Belize. There are a lot of place like that, but I see that the Malla Dynasty is not a sub-section of itself. Should that be changed to match all the other countries? I see the Belgian Congo is also in the same situation, so if this is done on purpose, is this something that will happen to all second-level countries with sub-sections?
Bophuthatswana was NEVER internationally recognised as a country - as it was a Bantustan given nominal 'independence' in 1977 by South Africa.

Bophuthatswana should be in the same section of unrecognised countries as Somaliland & Taiwan - but still linked with South Africa's listings.

These places should be highlighted in only Pakistan:
  • Bahawalpur, Princely state of
  • Habbari dynasty
  • Kalat, Khanate of
  • Multan, Emirate of (I think--it looks like the Emirate was just a city, which is located in Pakistan)
  • Sikh, Empire of (not enough in India or China to include those places)
  • Sindh, Sultanate of

This place should be highlighted in India and Pakistan:
  • Kashmir Sultanate

These places should be highlighted in India and Bangladesh:

This place should be highlighted in India and Sri Lanka:
  • Chola dynasty

This place should be highlighted in India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh:
  • Delhi, Sultanate of (combining the five different dynasties' areas)

This place should be highlighted in Myanmar and Bangladesh:
  • Arakan, Kingdom of (it looks like the coins are more specifically from the Kingdom of Mrauk-U, which was mainly focused in Myanmar, but had an area that seems to be split between those two countries). On a side note, I think this place may be more accurate if it was listed under Myanmar...
"Les Îles du Vent" include all the "Windward Islands" and "Leeward Islands" in French.
This big area is also called "Windward Antillas" in English (maybe we should take this name instead of "Windward Islands" ?).
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Eles_du_Vent_(Antilles) (top right map, sorry I didn't find a link in English)

Those coins were only minted in 1731 and 1732, and circulated in this area during the reign of Louis XV only. The following islands were concerned :
- Dominica
- Grenada
- Guadeloupe
- Martinique
- Saint Barthelemy
- Saint Lucia (the island was disputed by the French and the English so the ruler of this island changed many times during this period)
- Saint Martin
- Saint Vincent
- Trinitad (Tobago was Dutch during this period)

By the way, it's clearly a French issuer so I guess it should be moved under the France (same about "Îles de France et Bonaparte").
Isles of France & Bonaparte should be linked to both Mauritius & Reunion.

Not sure about the Seychelles though.

Aidan.
Done: Muscat and Oman, Kingdom of Kandy, Georgia, Ancient Georgia, Kingdom of Georgia.
I really like the new way you can click on specific sub-issuers while scrolling over the map! :8D
Hey, Xavier forgot to tell us that he already published that change. :D I tested it few days ago.

Neither Gotland nor the Khorezm People's Soviet Republic are on the map yet, so...

Gotland: this should be highlighted in Sweden.

For its "See also" links, please connect this place to Sweden and Denmark. Likewise, please add Gotland to both Sweden's and Denmark's "See also" links.

Khorezm People's Soviet Republic: it looks like this place was in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (with its capital in the latter), so... both those places should probably be highlighted.

And no comment on its "See also" links yet.
Hello all!

Xavier should soon implement Ticket system for various tasks done by admins.

You will be able to create tickets for changes in see also and map issues and then watch the progress on its solving.

This will bring gradual end to various "endless" forum threads and should allow some work load overview.

Any questions? Let me know!

Best regards,
Jarek

I think Vieques Island did not show on initial list as I asked to create the issuer after this thread started.

Now I see on Puerto Rico page is missing "see also: Vieques Island"

Thanks.
Just 10 options: you understand binary, or you don't.
Catalog Referee Coins, Banknotes & Exonumia: Uruguay, Cuba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Zamunda, Parva Domus and more.
On map
- Puerto Rico Island is showing as Danish West Indies,
- West Danish Indies are currently the U. S. Virgin Islands.
Viques Island is a small island placed to east from Puerto Rico, too small to show on Numista map, so if is showing together with Puerto Rico will be OK.

Lines between islands show limits of countries:
From left to right:
- part of Dominican Republic (that shares the island with Haiti to west),
- Puerto Rico, Vieques and Culebra are currently Puerto Rico country,
- U. S. Virgin islands, formerly Danish West Indies, formed by St. Thomas and St. John on north, and St. Croix to south,
- British Virgin Islands: formed by Tortola, Gorda, Anegada and some more small islands, also known as Eastern Caribbean States

Just 10 options: you understand binary, or you don't.
Catalog Referee Coins, Banknotes & Exonumia: Uruguay, Cuba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Zamunda, Parva Domus and more.
Finally I worked on this. German states are done up to I + all random ones that are not only in Germany.

Hm... I have not updated this thread in a while. :Zz:

Should I continue posting map-related stuff on this thread, or should I start doing so under the ticket system? And if the ticket system, which ticket (the modification of a country one?)?

Places I still need to check:
  • Shkodër, City of
  • Antivari, City of
  • Svač, City of
  • Vieques Island
  • Trebizond, Empire of
  • Bukhara, Emirate of
  • Bukhara, Khanate of
  • Khiva, Khanate of
  • Khoqand, Khanate of
  • Avar Khaganate
  • Burgundian Kingdom
  • Herulian Kingdom
  • Lombard Kingdom (sub-sections)
  • Ostrogothic Kingdom (sub-sections)
Yes please, go through tickets. Multiple countries at once is ok, I can cope with that better than with endless forum thread.
Catalogue administrator
Alrighty, I will start making these requests under the ticket system... sometime. :D
